Grace Anastasia Dance

I am a culmination of my experiences and am deeply driven to share them. The rhythm of life, music, love, people, time, seasons, truth: these things give me the inspiration to explore and expose my unique understanding of the world, through the vehicle of movement, words, sounds, and images. Finding solace in the human experience is a large part of why my art exists, and I find myself yearning to contribute to this universal exposure of the everyday.
Honesty and communication are two of the most important beliefs I hold. Within my work, I long to find the truth within my experiences, and share these truths through whichever artistic form I am cultivating at the time…usually dance, however poetry, music, film, and photography make their guest appearances. Inter-disciplinary work is important to me: with a long musical background and passion for hip hop music and poetry, the power of music as well as words guide me in my choreographic process. My own writing and dance are informed by each other as well as moments and relationships within my life. What does it mean to exist? I can only know my own answer to this question, and even that is shifting each day. My main goal in creating and sharing work is to expose this unique and individual experience, in hopes of opening eyes to differences or providing comfort in the form of familiarity.
I am one voice within a crowd. As a woman, an extrovert, an artist, a bisexual, a feminist, a musician, a poet, a dancer, a thinker, a teacher, a leader, all I can hope for is to find that prick of human connection in this complicated and hectic world. A moment of complex truth, a simplified and understandable bit of dance or music or writing, a bit of reality captured and shared with another human being, is all I can ask.
